Hackers Breach Nobitex, Exposing $100M Crypto Loss and Security Risks
Iranian cryptocurrency exchange Nobitex suffered a major security breach on Wednesday, with hacker group Gonjeshke Darande claiming responsibility for stealing over $100 million in digital assets. The attackers not only drained wallets but deliberately destroyed the funds, compounding the damage.
The breach escalated when Gonjeshke Darande published critical sections of Nobitex's source code on social media platform X. Blockchain researcher ZachXBT first flagged suspicious outflows from Nobitex wallets across TRON and EVM networks. The disclosure of proprietary exchange code raises ongoing security concerns beyond the immediate financial loss.
Iranian regulators responded by imposing operational restrictions on local crypto exchanges. The attack's timing and the hackers' public statements suggest geopolitical motivations rather than purely financial gain. Nobitex maintains the assault unjustly targeted Iranian citizens' assets and economic stability.
